Continuous Visibility Checks

AI Crawler Monitoring for Your Site

You checked once and everything was green. Then a CDN setting flipped, a plugin updated, someone edited robots.txt — and ChatGPT stopped seeing you. BotView re-scans your site on a schedule and emails you the moment ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity loses access.

AI Visibility Breaks Silently

Nothing tells you when an AI crawler starts getting 403s. There's no Search Console for ChatGPT. These are the ways sites go dark without anyone noticing:

Firewall & CDN changes

Cloudflare's AI-bot blocking is on by default for new zones. Migrations, plan changes, and managed-rule updates flip bot access without a changelog entry for you.

robots.txt regressions

A deploy overwrites robots.txt with a staging version, an SEO plugin "helpfully" adds AI-bot blocks, or a blanket Disallow: / ships to production. One line takes you out of every AI index.

Rendering rot

A framework upgrade or a broken bundle turns your pages into empty shells for crawlers while looking fine to humans. Your visibility score decays with no visual symptom.

How It Works

1

Scan your site to set a baseline

Your first scan is the baseline: robots.txt status for all 18 crawlers, live fetch-as-bot probes with WAF detection, rendering analysis, and a visibility score per LLM.

2

We re-check on a schedule (Pro & Agency)

On Pro and Agency, scheduled scans repeat the full check and record the score, building a trend line over time. You can see the exact week a change landed — and what it did to each engine.

3

You get an email when something breaks

If a search-index crawler — the bots behind ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity search — that could reach you last scan is now blocked, you get an email naming the bot and the layer (robots.txt vs firewall). Meaningful score drops alert too. You fix it in days, not after months of missing AI traffic.

Start With a One-Off Check Right Now

See where you stand today before you set up monitoring: we fetch your page as 8 AI crawler user agents (the 3 search gates plus 5 major training and user-fetch bots) and show the actual HTTP response each one gets — including firewall blocks.

Live HTTP check — we request your page with each bot's user agent and show you exactly what comes back. No signup needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is AI crawler monitoring?

Recurring automated checks of whether AI crawlers — the bots behind ChatGPT search, Claude search, Perplexity, Gemini, and Copilot — can still access and read your site. BotView re-scans your site on a schedule, scores its visibility per LLM, and emails you when a crawler loses access or the score drops, so a silent block gets caught in days instead of months.

Why would my AI visibility change if I didn't touch anything?

Because the layers around your site change without you. A CDN migration or plan change flips a bot-blocking default, a security plugin update adds a bot rule, a teammate deploys a robots.txt edit, or your WAF vendor updates its managed rules. All of these have silently 403'd AI crawlers on real sites — and none of them announce themselves. Traffic from AI engines just quietly stops.

How often does BotView check my site?

Monitoring runs on scheduled scans, included with the Pro and Agency plans — weekly is the default cadence, daily is also available. Every scheduled scan runs the full pipeline: robots.txt analysis for all 18 tracked crawlers, live fetch-as-bot probes with WAF-block detection, JS rendering analysis, and per-LLM scoring.

What triggers an alert email?

Two things. First, an access regression: a search-index crawler (the bots behind ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity search) that could reach your site on the previous scan is now blocked — say, getting 200s before and now hitting a firewall 403, or caught by a new robots.txt rule. Second, a meaningful score drop between scans (5 points or more). Either way the email names the bot and the cause. No noise when nothing changed.

Do I need to install anything on my site?

No. Monitoring is fully external — we check your site the same way the AI crawlers do, from the outside. No script tag, no DNS change, no server access. If we can see a problem, so can GPTBot; if we can't reach you, that itself is the finding.

Which crawlers are monitored?

All 18 we track, grouped by role: the search-index gates (OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot), the training crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, CCBot, and more), and the user-fetch agents (ChatGPT-User, Claude-User, Perplexity-User, and others). Gate-bot blocks are treated as visibility incidents; training-bot blocks are reported as policy status.
